The Basics of Torch Fired Enameling – This Sunday!

Makers,

This Sunday come learn the basics of torch fired enamels!  In this class you’ll learn to fuse opaque powdered glass enamel onto small pieces of copper using a torch.  You’ll create colorful, glassine shapes that can be made into jewelry! This class will teach you the basics of torch fired enameling, including a few fun extra design techniques.  All materials are provided and included in the workshop price. Basics of Torch Fired Enameling, is an intermediate jewelry class (please reach out to the instructor at [email protected] with any questions) and will run this Sunday from 10 am – 2 pm.

Every Tuesday, 6 PM

Join us for 3D PRINT CLUB! Every week, we’ll get together and participate in an open design session. This event is all about self-directed learning and hanging out with other people working on 3D designs or prints. Bring your own laptop or make use of the (first come-first-serve) Makerspace laptops loaded with Fusion 360.

3D Print Club is presented free, but registration is required. 

Conversations in Crypto: What is Libra?

August 17th, 6 – 8 PM

Decentralize Upper Valley presents a monthly meetup with guest speaker and open style Q and A session, third Saturdays 6-8 pm in beautiful Claremont New Hampshire’s new Maker Space @ 46 Main St.

Topics to be discussed include: Facebook’s new Libra Coin, Centralized vs Decentralized, Bull run 2020.  Come be part of a new crypto club!

Denim Inseam Repair

August 21st, 6:30 – 8:30 PM

Repairs to upper inseam and thigh areas of denim jeans don’t have to be difficult or obvious. In this class we will explore both interior and exterior hand-stitched mends for inseam and crotch holes, thin spots, and frays. No experience is required but participants must be able to thread a needle, and handle scissors and needles safely. All mending materials provided; please bring a pair of denim jeans or shorts you wish to repair.

Workhorse of the Woodshop: The Table Saw!

August 22nd, 6 – 9 PM

Come dive into the basics of how a table saw works: blades, squaring, safety, troubleshooting, and learn what you can do with it: ripping, crosscutting, joinery. Explore advanced operations of joinery: dados, rabbets, miters, and how they can form the aesthetic and function of your project.

Make A Silver Ring

August 25th, 11 AM – 2 PM

In this workshop, you’ll learn the basics of silver-smithing while you make a simple silver ring! The instructor will guide you through various options for how to embellish your band, the shape of which you will get to choose.  You’ll try soldering and learn how to polish your finished product into a beautiful ring! No experience necessary. All materials will be provided, and $5 materials fee is included in the registration cost.

The Claremont MakerSpace is looking for volunteers! 

Interested in volunteering at the Claremont MakerSpace in exchange for a discounted membership? Let us know! We’re currently looking for volunteer “Deskers” to help staff the CMS’s front desk. Desker responsibilities include giving tours, welcoming participants of classes and events, helping to keep common areas organized and more. We welcome Mikros to the CMS Corporate Usage Account program. Mikros is an awesome manufacturer of liquid cooling systems that go into everything from Electric Vehicles to Supercomputers. As well as being our neighbors in Claremont, they recently joined the Claremont Makerspace CUA program which allows their employees a substantial discount on classes and memberships. CMS Instructors come from a variety of skill sets and backgrounds, the unifying characteristic being a desire to share their knowledge and expertise. CMS is always interested in finding new and qualified instructors to lead tool training, create hands-on projects, explain interesting concepts and impart their knowledge.  Workshops can range from within one of our departments (Woodshop, Machine Shop, Welding, Sewing, Textiles, Jewelry, Electronics, Laser Cutting, 3D Printing) to computer and software skills, entrepreneurial readiness, hobby development, crafting and a lot more.
