Wide Format Printing 101 – This Tuesday

Wide Format Printer 101 will prepare members to use the awesome CMS Wide Format printer. Participants in the class will learn about digital printing and different approaches depending on the need, basic printer operation including loading sheet and roll paper and how to prepare and print from photoshop/illustrator and basic setup. This class will prepare participants to be certified for the basic operation at a follow up session.

Join us for 3D PRINT CLUB! Every week, we’ll get together and participate in an open design session. This event is all about self-directed learning and hanging out with other people working on 3D designs or prints. Bring your own laptop or make use of the (first come-first-serve) Makerspace laptops loaded with Fusion 360.
3D Print Club is presented free, but registration is required.
Rescheduled – Tuesday, October 1st, 6 PM
It’s that time of year! Brown Bats begin to look for a winter residence, often seen squeezing through and into cracks, nooks and crannies in our homes. These beneficial mammals will consume hundreds of mosquitoes a day all they need is a suitable place to winter over. Join us for this introductory woodworking class as we build bat houses and finish them with personal touches. Simple woodworking tools will be utilized to construct a ready to hang bat house. No previous woodworking experience needed. All construction materials supplied in the class. Please bring items to decorate your bat house (some provided) and wear closed toed shoes. Kids 12 & up allowed with the accompany of an adult. One Spot Left!
Monday, October 7th, 5:30 – 7 PM
The Claremont Makerspace ShopBot is a versatile tool that can be used to make toys, furniture and with certain bits, elegant lettering for signs. In this introductory class we will do a demo of the ShopBot’s text capabilities and participants will leave with a small sign of their choosing. Note: This class will include a basic demo of the ShopBot’s text capabilities. For a more in-depth overview of the machine, please sign up for one of our Intro to CNC Routing classes.
Monday, October 7th, 6 – 8 PM
This introductory MIG (Metal Inert Gas) welding workshop will cover MIG welding safety, machine setup, technique and troubleshooting – with lots of hands on practice. Participants will get comfortable using a MIG welder while doing a basic starter project.
Note: Individuals with no prior MIG welding experience are required to take this workshop before getting certified to use the CMS’s MIG welder on their own. If you already have substantial MIG welding experience, you may be eligible to test out of this training. For more information, please contact the CMS Metal Shop Lead, at: [email protected].
Papercrafting: Artist Trading Coins!
Friday, October 11th, 6:30 – 8:30 PM
These delightful mini-collages are super fun to create! Trade them with friends or on-line groups, or turn them into backpack/luggage tags, ornaments, mobiles…limited only by your imagination! All materials provided.
Artist Trading Coins are miniature pieces of art that are created on a 2.5-inch circle of heavy cardstock. They are created by and for artists to trade and collect. All participants must be able to use scissors and glue safely. This event is open to both kids & adults!

While all departments of the CMS offer shared workspace, CMS Personal Studio Spaces provide personal work areas for dedicated users to call their own. Personal studio spaces are made up of 48″ dividers and come in sizes of 60 sq/ft and 100 sq/ft , with each studio including 2 power outlets and an Ethernet jack. Studio Members may fit up their studios however they wish (as long as it’s all code compliant and respectful of others), and may share their personal studio spaces with other CMS members. CMS Instructors come from a variety of skill sets and backgrounds, the unifying characteristic being a desire to share their knowledge and expertise. CMS is always interested in finding new and qualified instructors to lead tool training, create hands-on projects, explain interesting concepts and impart their knowledge. Workshops can range from within one of our departments (Woodshop, Machine Shop, Welding, Sewing, Textiles, Jewelry, Electronics, Laser Cutting, 3D Printing) to computer and software skills, entrepreneurial readiness, hobby development, crafting and a lot more.
