This Sunday – Cultural Masks & Skeletons: A Halloween Crafts Party

Makers,

This Sunday, join us for a family friendly event Cultural Masks & Skeletons: A Halloween Crafts Party.

Participants will create unique masks based on a variety of cultural mask images from around the world. These masks will be made from cardstock and may decorated with colors, beads, feathers, collage and more! They’ll be great for trick or treating!

Participants may also choose to create a paper skeleton ornament as well as a Halloween treat bag. Cider and healthy refreshments will be provided during our Pre-Halloween celebration.

This class is most appropriate for children ages 5-14, but is suitable for older participants as well. Families are encouraged to attend, but children must be accompanied by an adult.

About the instructor: Allison Zito

Allison Zito is an artist and the Fiber Arts Shop Lead at the Claremont MakerSpace. Allison received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree from the University of the Arts, and her artwork has been exhibited in numerous museums including The Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia, The Berkshire Museum in Pittsfield MA, The Delaware Art Museum, The Pennsylvania State Museum in Harrisburg, and The Philadelphia Museum of Art. Allison has decades of teaching experience, having taught a considerable variety of classes at The Philadelphia Museum of Art, at Harcum College in Bryn Mawr, PA, and at the University of Pennsylvania Morris Arboretum.

Quilting Machine Training

Monday, October 28th, 6 – 7:30 PM

The Claremont MakerSpace’s quilting machine is a great tool for creative, efficient quilting! In this hands-on training session, participants will learn how to set up a project on the quilting machine and utilize its standard features. Participants of this class will have the opportunity to sign up for follow-up certification sessions, so that they may use the machine on their own.

3D Print Club

Every Tuesday, 6 PM

Join us for 3D PRINT CLUB! Every week, we’ll get together and participate in an open design session. This event is all about self-directed learning and hanging out with other people working on 3D designs or prints. Bring your own laptop or make use of the (first come-first-serve) Makerspace laptops loaded with Fusion 360.

Keeping a Sketchbook Journal

Saturday, November 2nd 11 am – 1 PM

You don’t have to be an experienced artist to enjoy sketching your surroundings! In Keeping a Sketchbook Journal, students will learn tips on keeping a sketchbook for recording observations and ideas. Students will learn about a variety of common sketching tools, best practices for recording notes and details on the fly, and methods including how to sketch shadows, movement, shape and more. Students don’t have to be skilled at drawing to enjoy this class and develop their sketchbook, but will surly find that their abilities improve with practice. 

Learn to Set A Simple Stone

Mondays, November 4th & 11th, 5 – 8 PM.

In this beginner class you’ll be given a stone cabochon and silver sheet to create a bezel to set it in!  The instructor will guide you through creating a simple design, how to create your bezel, and finally how to turn it into either a simple pendant or add it to a silver ring if you’ve taken the ring class!  You’ll learn a fun and essential skill to jewelry making: how to set a stone!
