Basics of Wire Work for Jewelry

Tue Aug 30 2022, from 05:30pm until 8:30pm EDT

In this class, we will cover the basics of wire (including metals, shapes and hardness); minimum wire work tools and their uses (including flat nose, round nose, chain nose pliers and side cutters); prepping a wire work project; simple and wrapped loops; beaded loops; making a wire clasp; properly wrapping wire bundles; basics of wrapping a stone; making a wire bail for a pendant.  Each participant will receive wire samples and bead samples. Each participant will complete a wire wrapped bracelet with clasp and a wrapped beaded pendant with bail. Students are welcome to bring their own toolkit (flat nose pliers, round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, side cutters, English & metric ruler).

Please note: The Claremont MakerSpace currently requires masks for all visitors and members.

Instructor: Angela Hill has been making jewelry since she completed her first seed bead woven bracelet at 9 years of age. After she retired from a successful career of teaching K-12, she sold her jewelry to local jewelry stores, on line and in crafts fairs for several years. Now she’s back to just doing it for pleasure. She enjoys wire work the most but also does silversmithing, stringing, knotting, seed bead weaving and mixed media metal work.

Class Fees: $10 includes assorted copper wire and assorted beads

Wire Sculptured Pendant with Stone

Thursday, September 1, 2022 from 5:30pm until 8:30pm EDT

We will quickly review the basics of wire and wire tools.  Each participant will create a wrapped and sculpted stone pendant with a woven bail and an adjustable knotted cord necklace and end beads.  The picture show a rectangular Agate stone but we will be using a 40-30mm rectangular Kyanite stone. Students are welcome to bring their own toolkit instead of using the MakerSpace tools (Flat nose pliers, round nose pliers, chain nose pliers, side cutters, English & metric ruler).

Please note: The Claremont MakerSpace currently requires masks for all visitors and members.
